Headstart Program

On November 19th, Joy guest taught 3- and 4-year-olds during the Headstart Program at a local school about making connections with nature. The topic for this session was “Why I Love Trees.” Using branches from white pine and sugar maple, Joy taught kids about using their senses to connect with nature. Children got to smell and touch dimension lumber from both trees, they tasted maple syrup and pine nuts, they heard Joy play her Native American flute made from cedar. They also got to learn new word: conservation!

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

“Thank you SO much for coming and talking with our Head Start classes here at Clear Creek.  Three and four year old children are very busy and excited, but I promise you they learned so much from you and were given an experience that they would not have ever had outside of school.  The children loved you and were talking about you the rest of the day.   Thank you for your time, patience and understanding.  I believe they loved your hat the most!”

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING…

Love the class and instructor, Ms. Joy!

What an amazing instructor. Loved the hands on experience from fire starting to cast iron clean up. Eating delicious one pot meal was the best.

I’m now hooked on outdoor cast iron cooking! It tastes sooooo good!

Kentucky BOW Campfire Breath Performance: Joy engaged audience members by demonstrating flute playing as a way of using breath to connect with nature and ancestors in a timeless moment of relaxation.
